Lions & Tigers & BEER! Oh, my!

Finding good beer at Disney’s Animal Kingdom

-THE PANDEMIC EDITION-

One of the greatest things in life is enjoying a good beer while taking in a great view. Disney’s Animal Kingdom is filled with some amazing views, and they have some damn good beer as well. Right now, with the world flipped upside down, not everything is open, and things are changing daily, but instead of getting as mad as a hippo with a hernia, Hakuna Matata! Disney is open, and the beer is still flowing! And it’s not just Bud Light.

Animal Kingdom is the most confusing Disney park in the states, and even if you think you have seen every part of it, you probably haven’t (there are of course exceptions). As soon as you walk in, there are little paths you can explore that have all sorts of different animals. There are also random paths throughout the park, which just means lots of spots to sit and enjoy a beer, while taking in the view. The Tree of Life has 325 different animals carved into it. Sitting down, drinking a good beer, and searching for animals on the tree is fun for the whole family.

People watching also increases exponentially at Disney. From matching shirts, to dads sporting Minnie Ears, to grandparents in motorized scooters running over kids, to random bubble trails hitting you in the face. You can also witness the occasional melt down by a parent with an ungrateful child (I wish I could say that parent has never been me). Never a dull a moment at Disney.

So…where the hell are those beer necessities? Beer is everywhere. You can find beer at almost any soda/ice cream cart, but the good beer is sometimes a bit harder to find. Not elephant graveyard hard, but not as accessible as Bud Light.

Things are changing pretty regularly, but here is a list of what was open in September 2020, and what beer they were serving, so you can BE PREPARED! I always head left toward Pandora when I walk in, so that’s the path this list follows. I did not include the basic “big name beers” as they’re as easy to spot as a herd on the move.

On my recent visit, Pizzafari, DAWA Bar, Harambe Market, Thirsty River Bar, and Dino Diner were all closed, but tend to have at least one good beer. So if you see these spots open, check them out! This counts double for the DAWA Bar (Africa) and Thirsty River Bar (Asia near Everest).

A lot of the shows are sadly closed as well right now, but Animal Kingdom is always a great park to visit if you love the outdoors. Africa and Asia both have trails you can follow with all sorts of animals. From hippos, to tigers, to bats, and you can drink your beer while you walk these trails. If you truly hate Disney and you are being forced to go by a spouse and/or kids…just keep drinking.  If you love Disney and beer, then put on those leopard print ears, grab that Stitch mask, get out the Lion King koozie, and HAKUNA MATATA! Jambo!

* All this information is subject to change, as Disney is regularly changing attractions and beverages. This is the most current information as of September 2020. Cheers!
